1. Words of Power complete, Health issue underway, and the (almost-) daily podcast continues

Qarrtsiluni’s Words of Power issue is now complete, and the Health issue, selected and arranged by Susan Elbe and Kelly Madigan Erlandson, is one week into a three-month tenure.

We held off on making this announcement until we could publish one last piece, which we’d accepted but somehow lost track of: “Incantation for My Old Friend, Landers,” by Alex Cigale, back-dated to October 4. This rare oversight was not the catastrophe it might otherwise have been, since with this issue we’ve started including a Table of Contents as one of the last posts at the top of the issue archive. With issues grown so long now, it’s not reasonable to expect people browsing the archives to scroll down and click back through six pages of posts. For those who want to find a specific author or artist, we’re still maintaining the Index of Contributors in both an abbreviated and an extended form. And of course the search form works. We are committed not only to keeping everything we’ve published online, but also to making it as findable as possible.

The qarrtsiluni podcast continues, though we’ve cut down the length of the introductory spiel, which we were beginning to tire of listening to. We won’t be doing special podcast episodes for image posts this issue — that wouldn’t seem right since we (Dave and Beth) had no role in selecting them. If you enjoyed those podcasts, though, and are worried about withdrawal, Dave has launched a weekly, half-hour literary podcast at his own blog, and Beth is considering starting something similar at the cassandra pages, perhaps on a monthly basis. And we’d really like to encourage other literary and personal bloggers to consider podcasting, or at least audio blogging, as well. Since many writers are on WordPress.com now, Dave posted a tutorial based on our experience at qarrtsiluni: “Literary podcasting made simple at WordPress.com.”
